About the archive
Unity Community Archive preserves community memory across Unity State.
Unity Community Archive preserves and celebrates our community’s history by recording the memories, experiences, and documents of different people and communities across Unity State. The original archive was collected and built by young people across Rubkona and Bentiu. It remains open to submissions from everyone who feels part of our community, celebrating the unique, multicultural, and connected nature of people from across Unity State. Through this work, we aim to support research, education, exchange, and mutual appreciation for the immense diversity within our community.

How the archive works
A careful, community-led approach to stewardship
Unity Community Archives SSD is shaped by the people who share their stories and by the care we take in how those stories are handled. We focus on clarity, consent, and long‑term preservation so that each contribution is respected now and in the future.
Our commitment in practice
We do not publish anything without permission. Contributors can set boundaries for how their materials are used, and we revisit consent if a concern is raised.
Step 1
Community contribution
Stories, photographs, and oral histories are shared by community members, families, and local historians in their own words and preferred languages.
Step 2
Careful review & consent
We review materials with the contributor to confirm consent, privacy expectations, and any cultural or family considerations before sharing publicly.
Step 3
Long‑term preservation
Approved materials are preserved with care, documented clearly, and maintained for future generations with ongoing community oversight.
